Dear Saint Joseph Family in Christ,

Welcome to Saint Joseph/Old Mission San Jose and our weekly communication newsletter.  I invite you to embrace and share these messages with your family and friends.

Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.  Psalm 1

This weekend we celebrate the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time.  The gospel message is powerful.  What we want, what we desire, whatever expectations we may have, may not necessarily be what we experience.  We suffer, we are persecuted, and many times inconvenienced and disappointed.  These sufferings are blessings, avenues to grace.  In reality, Jesus reminds us our lives may be filled with difficulty.  Even so, He is right here beside us all the way, our companion on the journey.  We do not need to hide our weaknesses.  We bring ourselves to Jesus...our trials and tribulations, our accomplishments and our challenges.  It is only through Him that we will have the gift of eternal life.

There is still time!  The Women of St Joseph in partnership with St Joseph School is sponsoring our “Heart to Heart” Food Drive which offers individuals and parish families an opportunity to help feed the families, singles and homeless of our community through the St. Vincent de Paul Ministry. This parish ministry provided 600 bags In December 2021!  Please click here for more details. Tomorrow, February 14, is the deadline to return the filled bags. Thank you for your generous support.

We invite you to participate in the Total Consecration to Saint Joseph.  Please join us Tuesday, February 15 at 6:00 PM via ZOOM (we will NOT meet in person as previously advertised) for a special meeting to discuss the agenda and format regarding the 33 days leading up to the Total Consecration on the Feast of Saint Joseph.  We begin with Vespers/Evening Prayer and then directly follow with our discussion.  Please click here to register.

Please click here to watch this inspiring documentary about Saint Joseph. While the Gospel has not preserved any of his words, his actions have resounded through the ages. Joseph of Nazareth stands out as the model par excellence of Christian virtue, a brilliant example of obedience to God and trust in Divine Providence. His role as protector of families in the difficulties of life and Patron of the universal Church has never been more clearly needed. Now, the Church is seeking to deepen its understanding of the Guardian of Jesus and of the Holy Family.

Lent is right around the corner!  Ash Wednesday is March 2.  Please click here for our Lenten schedule complete with Stations of the Cross and Mass dates/times.  Please remember to return your palms.  Baskets are located inside and outside the church for your convenience.

Bishop Michael C. Barber has issued a Decree on the Occasion of the 225th Anniversary of Old Mission San Jose/Saint Joseph Parish.  Please click here to read the decree in its entirety.

Synod 2021-2023 is in full swing.  Bishop Barber has asked for our participation and commitment.  Please click here to read more about this important series on communion, participation and mission.  Synod is a process used by many churches, rooted in the history of the Catholic Church. A Greek word, Synod can be interpreted as “walking together.” The International Theological Commission (ITC) describes synodality as “the path along with the People of God walk together. Equally, it refers to the Lord Jesus, who presents Himself as ‘the way, the truth and the life’ (Jn 14:6) and to the fact that Christian, His followers, were originally called ‘followers of the Way.’ … Synodality ought to be expressed in the Church’s ordinary way of living and working.”

Blessed are the poor and suffering.  Help us help our refugee families.  This is another opportunity to live the Gospel.  Please click here and learn more about how we as Christians can help families in need.
